Irish man dies in apparent drowning tragedy in Thailand

An Irish man has died in an apparent drowning tragedy in Thailand.

Local media say the body of the 28-year-old was recovered from a lagoon in Phuket on Thursday.

He had gone swimming in the reservoir on Tuesday, and a search was launched after he disappeared under the water.

Thai police say a full investigation into the cause of the man's death is underway, and it is in contact with the Irish embassy in Bangkok.
