The community of Boyle gathered back on the streets once again last weekend for Darkness Into Light.

ACTIVE AGE OPEN DAY 

Boyle Active Age will be celebrating Bealtaine with an open day for the over 50s on Thursday, May 14th. Entertainment supplied by professional and amateur musicians. This event will be happening at the Family Resource Centre, Military Road on Thursday from 2 – 5 p.m.. All welcome.

BOYLE GROUP SCHEME 

Boyle Group Scheme Ltd., has the following vacancies on its Community Employment Scheme: general operatives (environmental workers), support workers, Citizen Information Office, and caretaker St. Joseph's Resource Centre. No experience is necessary and accredited training will be provided to support career development. The contract is for a minimum of one year. RAMBLING HOUSE 

Rambling House on Sunday, May 17th at 3p.m. in Tawnytaskin Community Centre, Boyle (F52 VW35) with Gene Sheerin, storyteller. This will be an afternoon of music, song, dance and storytelling, all local talent with one or two surprises. Refreshments served and raffle on the day.

LATE MS GERTRUDE MCKEON 

The death took place last week of Mrs Gertrude (Gertie) McKeon, Pairceanna Na Bhaile,, Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon, and formerly The Plains, Boyle. She did peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Sligo University Hospital. Pre-deceased by her parents Michael and Gertie and brother-in-law Francis Beirne. Gertie is be deeply regretted and sadly missed by her heartbroken sister, Mary Beirne (Clogher, Carrick-on-Shannon); brother, Padraig (Boyle); nephew, Alan; cousins, extended family, neighbours, carers and a large circle of friends. Mass of Christian burial took place in St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

BOYLE GAA 50/50 DRAW 

Denisa Olejnikova  was the lucky winner of this week’s 50/50 prize draw for €1,870. Next draw will take place on May 16th in The Well. 

COMMUNITY MURAL PROJECT 

Boyle Family Resource Centre is grateful to everyone who helped bring the community mural project to life. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who have supported the centre from the very beginning. Thanks also  to the tennis club for being so flexible. A special thank you to Boyle Arts Festival for the generous use of their gazebos, and to CYPSC Roscommon for funding and supporting this project.

MCGAHERN BARRACKS 

The next guided tour of John McGahern’s places of interest takes place on Saturday, June 6th. Meet up at the McGahern Barracks Museum in Cootehall (F52YD92) at 10 a.m. with the tour starting at 10.30 a.m. and visiting places of interest from McGahern’s writings including Fenagh, Ballinamore, Aughawillan and Keshcarrigan. The tour lasts approximately 3.5 hours and is accompanied and narrated by local historian and creative director of the museum, Tom Inglis.  ROSCOMMON DEMENTIA ALLIANCE 

The Roscommon Dementia Alliance hosts a monthly café in Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle to help support people affected by dementia, their families and carers. This month’s café takes place on Wednesday, May 20th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will include music, song, advice and a chat. please note change of venue. CONNACHT CHAMPIONS 

Congratulations to Conor Cryan and the Roscommon U-17 panel and management on their excellent victory over Galway in the provincial final in Tuam on Friday last, and to the Roscommon senior panel and management who repeated the feat in Dr Hyde Park on Sunday. What a wonderful period for Roscommon football. Wishing the very best of luck to Ruadhan Henry, Shane O'Dowd and the Roscommon U-20s as they take on Kerry in the All-Ireland Semi-final in Semple Stadium, Thurles at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13th.
