FRENCHPARK

FRENCHPARK TIDY TOWNS

Great work is being done around the village this year in preparation for the Tidy Towns adjudicators. It would be greatly appreciated if residents could sweep and clean outside their own houses. The group acquired four new planters kindly donated by the prison services in Castlerea which are situated on Society Street at the junction and also at the recently restored pollinator area. A special thanks to Theresa and her team in Castlerea who do great work in helping community volunteers whenever possible. Frenchpark Tidy Towns is always looking for new members and volunteers to either work in groups or maybe on their own as some people like to. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

TULSK

LADIES REACH FINAL FRONTIER

The congratulations of the entire local community are extended to Niamh Feeney and Rachel Brady who are both part of the Roscommon panel who have reached the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Intermediate Football Final following a four-point victory over Westmeath in Breffni Park, Cavan at the weekend. The team recorded a 2-14 to 2-10 victory and have transformed a season that looked potentially over following a defeat to Leitrim earlier in their campaign. For Niamh, this will be her fourth All-Ireland decider following final appearances in 2022, 2019 and 2018. To get to a national decider is an exceptional achievement for the ladies who are wished every success and good fortune ahead of the final.

LATE MRS MARGARET HUNT

The sympathies of the local community are extended to the family and friends of the late Margaret Hunt, (née Filan), late of Milltown, Castleplunkett, whose death has occurred. Formerly a resident of Mulligallon, Castleplunkett, the deceased passed away in the care of staff at University College Hospital Roscommon, surrounded by her loving family. The late Margaret is predeceased by her husband Michael, parents Margaret and Jack, sister Lily (O’Grady), brothers Luke, Peter and recently deceased Tom, brother-in-law Matt, and sister-in-law Mae. The deceased is survived by her children Regina, Orla, John and Michelle; her grandchildren Sarah, Alía, Andrew, Anthony, Michael, Matthew, Molly and Aoibheann; great-grandchildren Casey and Lena, sons-in-law Fergus, Sean and John, daughter-in-law Ailbhe, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends. The deceased reposed at her residence before being removal to St. Paul's Church, Kilmurray for Funeral Mass on Monday followed by burial in Ballintubber Cemetery.

CEMETERY MASS

Glorious clear blue sunny skies were all too evident at last Sunday’s annual Cemetery Mass in Kilcooley Cemetery. The burial grounds looked in pristine condition, thanks in no small measure to the efforts of families who have loved ones interred there but also thanks to the efforts of the local cemetery committee. Credit also once again to Fr. John Gannon and the choir in Tulsk for contributing to the sense of occasion and appropriate celebration. There were many who also assisted in the laying the logistics for the event, among them Tom Tighe for the use of the covered altar and to Denis and Tom Lane for the use of amplification. Credit also to the many people from near and far who attended the Mass.

HISTORY MAKERS

Tulsk’s U-14’s had the privilege of playing the first championship match on the club’s fine new pitch last week against St. Ciaran’s. Despite the very warm conditions, both teams played a fantastic match of end-to-end football, with both sides having their spells of dominance. St Ciaran’s were a point up at half time and extended that lead to six. But Tulsk reasserted themselves and reduced the deficit before the water break with the final 15 minutes resulting in a nerve-wracking battle. The match ended with Tulsk winning by 4-10 to St. Ciaran’s 2-14. Tulsk team - Daniel Neary, Daniel Fortune, James Feely, Donnacha Clarke. Micheal Óg Carty, Alex McGarry, Ethan Coyne, Finnan Miley (0.1) Dylan Cryan (1-2), Evan Cribbin (2-0) Liam Dixon (1-4) Matthew Fallon (0-1) Jake Noone (0-1) Conor Bailey, Gavin Hanly, Michael Nally, Cormac Carthy (0-1). The team’s next game is against a Michael Glaveys/Eire Óg selection. Once again, well done to all of the team and their mentors.
