LAUNCH OF COUNTY FLEADH CCÉ 

Bhaile Ros Comáin has announced the launch of the County Fleadh in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon Town on Sunday, March 22nd at 5 p.m.. The evening will include a performance by Music Generation, official opening by Liam Callaghan, presentation of Gradam Awards, songs by family and friends of the late Pauline Hanly and a junior and senior music session. Everyone is very welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served. Looking forward to a wonderful evening.

COMMUNITY CHALLENGE 2026 – A HUGE SUCCESS 

The organisers of the annual Roscommon Community Challenge, which took place last weekend, say thank you to everyone who helped make the event an enormous success.

Organises were beyond blessed with the weather and were delighted to meet the 230 participants who turned up to take part.

A huge thank you to Noel Feeley, CEO Roscommon Sports Partnership and to his staff David Brady, Atilia Tavares, Olimpia Mihalcea and Daire Feeley who took a training group of 90 people in the first week of January and over eight weeks of dedicated training helped them reach their 5 or 8k target. A special word of thanks to Martin Hannon also from Roscommon Sports Partnership for his expertise and guidance and most of all his patience on all communication channels and online registration. Thank you to all the staff in the office who worked on this project behind the scenes. Nothing is ever a bother, and the success of this event is due to their dedication and professionalism.

Thank you to our tea ladies without whom there would be no those lovely refreshments to return to, under the guidance of Mrs Carr, Patricia, Grant, Sophie, Monica, McKenzie, Tamzin Jane, Fiona, Rita, Patricia and Martina. Thank you to everyone who dropped in refreshments on the evening. Caroline Una and Sinead on registrations thank you for your support and assistance. A multitude of gratitude to Kathryn Dennigan for the hard work and patience behind the scenes. Ashe Galway you are a mighty DJ, thank you for keeping all entertained. Liam Hannon, personal trainer and group instructor, thank you for your lovely warmup prior to the start of the run. Roscommon Harriers are a wonderful club, and the help with timing and marshalling is appreciated. Indeed, those who took on our training programmes would be warmly welcomed at Harriers training, which takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday evening. Thank you to Mary and Paula on the water stop for helping to keep everyone hydrated.

Roscommon Community Sports Park is a fabulous and unique place, and grateful thanks to the committee for the use of the facility. It was great to be able to turn on the lights on the new basketball court to give the public an opportunity to get a glimpse of the wonderful new court, a huge addition to sport in Roscommon.

Thank to Sgt. Michael Walsh and his team from Roscommon Garda Station for helping to keep everyone safe. Thank you to the local media Ian Cooney, Roscommon Herald, Paul Healy Roscommon People, Joe O’Brien and Willie Hegarty for their coverage. Particular thanks to Willie for his lovely words of encouragement. Thanks also to our young sporting stars from Roscommon - Diarmuid Murtagh and Olivia Costello for their kind words and support.

Thank you to Senator Gareth Scahill, Maria Walsh MEP and Cllr Ruth Conboy for taking time out of their schedule to visit The Sports' Park and share words of encouragement. Thank you to Eabha, Una and Olimpia for sharing their thoughts with the group.

Organisers appreciate the lovely way all remembered the legend that was Maire Allen, Maire’s Mile was very poignant but beautiful and thank you so much.

Finally, to the participants, a big thank you for all the support. This fun run would not be the event it is only for you.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS FUNDRAISER ON ST PATRICK’S DAY 

Roscommon Special Olympics has organised a three-person golf scramble on Tuesday, March 17th to raise funds to support 12 members of the club who are taking part in the national (All-Ireland) games, which take place in Dublin in June. Later that evening at 6.30 p.m. a music session in conjunction with Roscommon Comhaltas to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day will take place with a few surprise guests in the clubhouse.

RSG TABLE QUIZ 

County Roscommon Disability Support Group is holding a table quiz in Foxe’s Bar in Roscommon Town on Friday, March 20th at 9 p.m. All proceeds go towards the running costs for accessible transport.

APPEAL FOR FRESH DAFFODILS 

The Irish Cancer Society's Daffodil Day will be on Friday, March 20th. As in previous years, the local voluntary organisers of Daffodil Day in Roscommon Town are appealing to the public to donate fresh daffodils. Volunteers will be available to receive daffodils at the Daffodil Day depot, 'The Central Bar', The Square, Roscommon Town, on Thursday, March 19th from 10.30 a.m. – 6 p.m.. Volunteers and students will be on the streets and at local shops selling fresh daffodils, silk daffodils and other items in support of this annual fundraiser.

EASTER PARADE LAUNCH 

The Roscommon Town Easter Parade launch takes place in Down The Hatch Bar,  Roscommon at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19th All are welcome to come along at attend the launch.  

ROSCOMMON PLOUGHING ASSOCIATION PUBLIC MEETING 

The Roscommon Ploughing Association invites members of the public, local residents, businesses and interested organisations to attend a public meeting to discuss preparations for the upcoming Roscommon Ploughing Championships & Field Day 2026. The meeting will be held in St. Kieran’s Community Centre / Castlecoote on this  Thursday, March 12th at 8:30 p.m. At this meeting it will be announced that the Roscommon Ploughing Championships & Field Day will take place on Sunday, May 3rd at the Hanley Family Farm, Fuerty. This annual event attracts competitors and spectators from across Roscommon and throughout Ireland and provides an important opportunity to promote local agriculture, community involvement and local businesses. The Association welcomes ideas, suggestions and community participation to help enhance the ploughing experience and ensure the continued success of this traditional and important county event. All are welcome to attend.

CASTLECOOTE CONCERT 

Congratulations and well done to all involved in the candlelit choral concert with Roscommon Men’s Choir and Castlecoote Church Choir. It was a very enjoyable evening.

COMMUNITY CENTRE AGM 

Castlecoote Community Centre Committee has rescheduled the AGM for Sunday, April 19th at 7 p.m.. All welcome.

COFFEE MORNING 

John and Roisin Kelly are hosting their annual Irish Cancer Society Daffodil Day Coffee Morning on Friday, March 20th 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in their home at Lisanaville, Fuerty (F42AX64). All welcome.
