Thankfully the elements were kind for the annual Tulsk Cemetery Mass last Sunday, which was preceded by the cemetery Mass in Killina the previous evening. Both occasions are arguably highlights in the community during the year, marking a special celebration of those who have gone before us. Great credit is due to all of the families who ensured the cemeteries and respective burial plots were looking their best ahead of the celebrations. Credit too also to Fr. John Gannon and the choir in Tulsk for contributing to the sense of occasion and appropriate celebration. There were many who also assisted in the laying the logistics for the event, among them Tom Tighe for the use of the covered altar and to Denis and Tom Lane for the use of amplification. Credit also to the many people from near and far who attended the Mass. This Sunday (July 12th), there will be Mass in Kilcooley Cemetery at 11.30 a.m.. These celebrations are always a wonderful celebration of colour and vibrancy, reflecting on those gone before us and lives well lived that continue to inspire us all.
The annual Roscommon GAA/Tulsk GAA Club Social Inclusion Outing took place last Saturday with a trip to Clifden. Over 60 people booked their seats for what was a most enjoyable and relaxed day. The group began with breakfast in the Ard Rí House Hotel in Tuam before proceeding to Dan O’Hara’s Cottage near Tuam where they heard the story of this famous emigrant and visited his ancestral home which is fully restored. After a brief period of time in Clifden, the group then visited Glengowlagh Mines near Oughterard, a fully restored lead mine, used to extract lead for armaments during the US Civil War before later adjourning for an evening meal, again in the Ard Rí House Hotel in Tuam. Well done to Sean Mannion and his organising committee for their efforts and thanks to all concerned who travelled on the day.
