Local Notes: Tradfest Ceili, Rounders, House Calls
Great to see over 20 Windmill Wheelers out last weekend. The Wheelers encourage new members to join their ranks.
Elphin Tidy Towns will hold a community clean-up on March 7th from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, meeting at the church car park. Pickers and hi-vis jackets provided. The group needs community support to clean up before St. Patrick’s Day. All welcome.
What a treat is in store for town and visiting musicians, singers and dancers this weekend, February 20th to 22nd when the Dr John Stafford Tradfest returns for the first time since the Covid pandemic. There is a very full programme put together by the fantastic committee with something for everyone. Keep your eye on the Dr. Stafford Tradfest Facebook page for further updates and come out and support the event which will grow and grow.
The Piper's Cross Ceili Band, All-Ireland champions, will play at the Tradfest Ceili at 9 p.m. on February 20th. Live music, raffle, light refreshments.
The Tower Inn supports the John Stafford Tradfest with a junior session on Friday, February 20th from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.. There will be a traditional Irish music session with local and visiting musicians at 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 21st. On Sunday, February 22nd there will be a singers’ session at 8.30 p.m. and the close of the Tradfest with local and visiting musicians. Everyone welcome BINGO Thank you to everyone who supports the Monday bingo sessions at 8 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre.
A movie night (‘Free Guy’) for ages 13-17 has been arranged for Elphin Community Centre for this Tuesday, February 17th. Free popcorn and snacks. Phone Rachel 086 6037598 for information. The Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold its annual church gate collections at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Aughrim on Sunday, February 22nd and at St. Brigid's Church, Kilmore on Sunday, February 22nd. Roscommon SPCA is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with all money donated going directly towards animal welfare in the county. Shannon Gaels GAA/LGFA were grand prizewinners of the recent GAA Glór na nOg Initiative. The prize was awarded to the club in recognition of its excellent work in many various initiatives and the positive roles it plays in the wider community.
