GET ROSCOMMON WALKING 

Walking groups can now access free insurance cover when they register through Get Ireland Walking, a support for local community groups, clubs and neighbours who want to get more active together. Once registered, groups can benefit from public liability cover for group coordinators and volunteer walk leaders, free leader resources and safety guidance, eLearning training for walk leaders, templates and supports for group-led community walks, encouragement to get more people walking across Ireland. SHORT BREAKS SCHEME 

Would you be interested in providing home from home short breaks for children and adults who have an intellectual disability? Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, Homeshare Roscommon are recruiting host carers. Training and support provided. Tax exempt allowances paid. YOUTH MASS 

The first of the Roscommon parish’s Youth Masses of 2026 will be at 7 p.m. on this Saturday, January 24th in the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon. This Mass has been especially designed for young people, by young people, and everyone is invited to attend. The theme for the Mass is optimism.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL 

St. Vincent De Paul Roscommon Town thank most sincerely all who donated so generously both financially and with food in the supermarkets to the Christmas food appeal, also appreciation to all the supermarkets who facilitated same. WELCOME FR. CALLISTUS 

A warm welcome to Fr. Callistus Isara MSP, who began ministry in the parish last weekend. He arrived during the week from his native Nigeria and will be in the parish for a year. Fr. Callistus previously ministered in Ireland, in the Diocese of Kilmore.

ROSCOMMON COMMUNITY CHALLENGE 2026 

The annual Roscommon Community Challenge will take place this year on Friday, March 6th with a moonlight 5 and 8k trip around Roscommon Town. In advance of this event, the usual and extremely popular twice weekly training sessions are taking place. Training comprises of 16 structured evening sessions, held on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. from Roscommon Community Sports Park with expert – led support for walking and running, The training programme provides a dedicated plan for walkers which will build safely towards a 5k, it also ensures gradual progression which is suitable for all fitness levels. Everyone is training and preparing alongside each other with the same end goal, getting fitter, healthier, and completing The Roscommon Community Challenge. Total cost of this training programme is €30. Register now to be part of something special, improve your health and fitness and at the same time know that you are helping a wonderful cause in Roscommon Special Olympics and Roscommon Community Sports Park. ACCOMMODATION FOR COUNTY FLEADH 

 The County Fleadh Cheoil will take place in Roscommon over Easter weekend. Organisers are enquiring if people living in the environs of the town would be interested in renting their houses or rooms in their houses to provide accommodation for musicians and visitors coming to the Fleadh. REUNION 

The class of 1985 at the Convent of Mercy Secondary School, Roscommon Town will hold an anniversary school reunion on Saturday, January 24th. The event will commence with a tour of the Convent School at 2 p.m. followed by Mass in the school at 3 p.m.. At 4.30 p.m. past students will be welcomed to Gleesons Restaurant, The Square for finger food with an opportunity to reminisce about their school days. IRISH LANGUAGE FOR BEGINNERS 

Irish language for beginners at Beár an Ráille Abbeytown, Roscommon on Thursdays from 6.30 p.m. – 8 p.m..Free of charge.

PARENTING ALONE GROUP 

The People Parenting Alone Group resumes in SRFRC on January 26th at 6 p.m.. All welcome. Mae from Bitsy and Bobsy Art Club will facilitate an arts and crafts class for children while parents connect. GAELSCOIL DE HIDE OPEN MORNING

Gaelscoil de hÍde will be hosting an open morning on Saturday, January 24th from 11 a.m. - 12.30 p.m.. ST. COMAN’S WOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL 

Registration for new entrants for September 2026 at St. Coman’s Wood Primary School is now open. The application form is available for filling in on-line at the school website www.comanswoodprimary.ie. An information evening will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd from 7 - 8 p.m. with Dr. Úna Feeley’s address for parents only. An open evening will be held on Thursday, February 5th, 6 - 7 p.m. – all children very welcome.

LIVING WELL 

 Living Well is a free HSE programme which helps people living with a long-term health condition to manage their condition and improve their overall wellbeing. Anyone with any chronic illness such as diabetes, arthritis, COPD, cardiac illness, anxiety, etc. can benefit from these workshops. The next programme commences on Thursday, January 22nd of at 10.30 a.m. in the Cube Building Roscommon Town.

ORAN 

LATE MAUREEN MAGUIRE The sudden death occurred on January 11th of Maureen Maguire Cluain Bhríde, Ballintubber and formerly of Corbally, Donamon. Beloved mother to Eva and Jarlath. Deeply regretted by her parents, Mary and Pat Maguire; brothers, Charles, Gerry, Damien and Aidan; her partner, Aidan Scanlon; aunts, Anne Conlon, Margaret Higgins, Patricia Noone and Mary Handy (Clara); uncle Oliver Maguire (Lanesboro); sisters-in-law, Edel and Nadia; Eva’s father, John Murphy; her cousins, nieces and nephews, Amelia, Cian, Patrick, Nova and Sophie, her many friends, neighbours and work colleagues in Tesco Roscommon. Predeceased by her grandparents, Charlie and Maureen Conlon and Eugene and Margaret Maguire. Her remains were removed from Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon on Friday morning to St Patrick’s Church, Clooneycolgan. Following Mass of the Resurrection burial took place afterwards in Oran Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

An information meeting for parents of children due to start school September 2026/September 2027 will take place in Runnamoat National School on Thursday, January 22n at 7.30 p.m..
