Ballaghaderreen is set to benefit from a major infrastructure investment as work begins this month on a €3.8 million upgrade of the town's wastewater treatment plant.

The project, delivered by Uisce Éireann, will improve the performance and resilience of the wastewater treatment infrastructure while helping to protect the local environment.

The upgrade will enhance key wastewater treatment assets, improve operational performance and resilience, and support compliance with environmental requirements.

Works will include the construction of a new storm tank, upgrades to the wastewater treatment process, improvements to pumping infrastructure and enhancements to monitoring and operational control systems.

Together, these improvements will enhance the reliability and efficiency of the wastewater treatment infrastructure while continuing to safeguard local waterways and the surrounding environment.

David Sharry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "We are delighted to see work getting underway on this important investment for Ballaghaderreen. The project will strengthen the town's wastewater treatment infrastructure, improve operational performance and resilience, and support environmental compliance.

"This investment demonstrates Uisce Éireann's commitment to delivering sustainable wastewater services that support communities and protect the environment. We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation as these essential works progress."

The upgrade works will be carried out by Conway Engineering on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed in Autumn 2027.
