‘Castlerea Concerned Community group’ to hold protest

Plans to house International Protection Applicants at some apartments in the Riverwalk complex in Castlerea are being resisted.

A group protesting against the planned use of a number of apartments in Castlerea for International Protection Applicants will hold a protest in Castlerea this afternoon, Sunday, May 19th.

The protest will get underway at 1 p.m..

The Castlerea Concerned Community group says that it is “made up of residents of Castlerea and surrounding areas. The same every day people you've seen walk past you in the streets or greeted in the shops. Anyone is welcome to join, this group does not discriminate in any way towards any persons. It is simply a collection of concerned local citizens.”

The group says that it was “set up in a bid to gain some understanding on the current and future plans to house unvetted males in the town and intends to walk peacefully this Sunday at 1 p.m..

“This group wants answers for its residents about the future of this town, all of its residents regardless of where you are from.”

Earlier this week a protest by another Castlerea group was called off.
