A County Roscommon primary school has been given the go-ahead by Roscommon County Council to construct a prefab classroom on its grounds.

The new 26 square metre prefab will facilitate a classroom for additional learning needs at Scoil Aodáin Lismoil in Lismoyle, which is located about 3km north west of the village of Curraghboy.

The planning documents note that the new prefabricated unit will have a design life of 40 years and will be used to cater for the existing cohort of pupils.

Roscommon County Council said it accepted the requirement for the structure in the immediate term but stressed that such units were prone to deterioration over time and were not considered to represent a suitable permanent solution.

Permission for the pre-fabricated classroom was granted for five years unless prior to the end of this period, planning permission is granted for retention of the structure for a further period.
