County Roscommon woman's 50 year-old fridge is still cool!
Alice Feeney's refrigerator has been working non-stop for five decades. Is this worthy of a mention in the Guinness Book of Records?
A County Roscommon woman is the proud owner of one of the oldest fully-operational refrigerators in the country.
Alice Feeney from Ballybeg, Tulsk, bought the Frigidaire RM1400L from Michael Gunning Electrical of Castlerea in 1974. It has continued to work non-stop for five decades ever since.
Apart from minor wear-and-tear of plastic parts, and a slightly-chaffed power cord, Alice says there have been no other issues with the fridge and it continues to be used to store food and beverages on an everyday basis.
Alice defrosts the fridge every fortnight and, as of mid-2024, the machine shows no sign of stopping.
"In this age of ‘built-in obsolesce,’ this vintage refrigerator is surely worthy of a mention in the Guinness Book of Records," says Alice.
