Eighteen groups across county to receive funding for community centres

Elphin Community Centre will benefit from the latest round of funding.
Community groups across the county are to receive more than €300,000 in funding to upgrade their community centres. It is part of €7m in funding for 399 community centres across the country, which was announced recently by An Taoiseach Simon Harris and Minister Heather Humphreys.
Eighteen groups are to receive funding as follows: Ardcarne Park Development Committee, €14,151; Ballinaheglish Community Centre and Development Association, €13,800; Clonown Community Centre, €23,750; Culleen Hall Committee, €22,143; Elphin Community Centre Company Limited, €18,163; Fairymount Parish Hall Committee, €19,716; Fuerty Castlecoote Development Association, €23,741; Gorthaganny Community Development Company, €12,000; Granlahan Community Centre, €23,500; Lisacul Community Development Company, €23,430; Lisnamult Community Enterprise Company Limited, €7,885; Northwest Roscommon Cdp Company, €22,757; Roscommon Lions Community Youth Centre Ltd, €24,000; St Johns Community Centre, €18,050; Taughmaconnell Community Centre, €23,250; The Melting Pot Community Society Limited, €11,700; Tulsk Action Group Company Limited By Guarantee, €21,026; and Tulsk Macra Hall, €14,535.
Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed the funding, saying it was “more great news here for community groups all across County Roscommon”. She said that the funding would be used for fire safety, heating, kitchen facilities, upgrading toilets, flooring and solar panels.
“Well done to all. I’ve worked closely with Minister Heather Humphreys who has been key to all of this policy development to ensure funding to meet costs and maintenance for community centres. The focus on ‘Our Rural Future’ means that Roscommon towns and villages are places so many families want to call home,” she said.
“Exercise classes, training, office spaces, drama and theatre, local concerts are all types of activities that so many of us enjoy thanks to our local community group who keep the centre and the hall in good shape. Keeping the place warm can be so expensive so looking at solar panels and insulation are good ways to bring down the bills,” said Senator Dolan.
