Investigations ongoing in major suspected drug seizure

A woman arrested in connection with a major seizure of suspected drugs locally has been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The woman, who is aged in her 50s, and a man in his 40s were arrested following the seizure of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €100,000.

Gardaí said that as part of ongoing investigations into the activities of an organised crime group based in Sligo, they conducted an operation over the weekend.

“As part of the operation, Gardaí from the Sligo/Leitrim Crime Functional Area, supported by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, stopped and searched a vehicle in Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim and one in Keadue, County Roscommon,” the statement said. “Suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €100,000 was seized and two people were arrested.”

The man remains detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007, and investigations are ongoing.
