A learner driver was found to be 14 times over the legal limit after being stopped by local Gardaí.

Carrick-on-Shannon Gardaí were on mobile patrol when they observed a vehicle driving erratically.

Gardaí subsequently stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who was a learner driver. He was driving unaccompanied and had no insurance.

The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and conveyed to Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station.

Following a breath test at the Garda station, he was found to be 14 times over the limit.

He was charged and will appear at a sitting of Carrick-on-Shannon District Court in the coming weeks.
