Orange wind warning lifted for Roscommon but 6,600 customers still without power

The road between Dunmore and Williamstown Road at Kilnalag is flooded.

The Status Orange wind warning for County Roscommon has been lifted this morning, Saturday, but more than 6,600 customers across the county and surrounding areas are still without power due to damage caused by Storm Amy yesterday and overnight.

Areas around Roscommon Town, Creggs, Glenamaddy, Williamstown, Castlerea and Ballyfarnon are among the worst affected.

ESB crews are continuing to restore power to remaining homes and businesses.

Roscommon County Council crews have cleared many of the fallen trees since the storm hit yesterday but there are still a number of local roads impassible.

A number of them are also still flooded such as the Dunmore to Williamstown Road at Kilnalag.

Strong winds and heavy rain are still making driving conditions difficult this morning and motorists are being advised to continue to exercise caution on the roads.

87,000 customers nationally remain without power, down from 120,000 yesterday.

Meanwhile, a boil water notice has come into effect for 4,403 customers supplied by the Castlerea public water supply scheme.

According to Uisce Éireann, the notice is being issued due to increased turbidity impacting the treatment process at the Longford Springs Water Treatment Plant.

The decision was taken on Friday night following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE).
