Permission is being sought for a new solar farm in the county.

Roscommon County Council received a planning application from Elgin Energy Services Limited on January 29th. The development is proposed to be located at Meera and Tullyleague, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Roscommon.

The solar farm proposal includes the installation of photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames in rows; a 38kV ESB electricity substation compound including a single storey substation building and electrical infrastructure; up to 23 single inverter stations or an alternative string inverter; ducting and underground electrical cabling; as well as new internal access tracks, and pole mounted CCTV cameras.

The solar farm will have an operational lifespan of 40 years and an estimated export capacity of 30MW approximately of electricity. Planning permission is being sought for a duration of 10 years and the application is currently at the initial pre planning stage.

A decision is due by the council’s planners by March 25th.
