Ready for off at Roscommon Racecourse this evening
Pictured at the last Roscommon Races were Niamh McDonagh, Roisin, Kate, Emma and Caroline Doherty. This evening's meeting is a Family Evening with lots of free entertainment for the children.
Roscommon Racecourse is all set for an all-flat fixture today, Tuesday, August 19th with a 5.20 p.m. start time.
This fixture could have a large bearing on the jockey’s championship. Colin Keane had to sit out a two-week suspension he picked up in July and that allowed Dylan Browne McMonagle to close the gap, which he did and at one stage he held a narrow lead.
Keane came back storming last week and rode five winners in two days and the race to be crowned Champion Jockey looks likely to go down to the last few fixtures of the season.
Both Keane and McMonagle have enjoyed plenty of success with Roscommon Racecourse all year and hopefully Billy Lee will be back too. The latter sustained a broken collar bone a few weeks ago, which required an operation, and we could yet have a three way battle for the flat title.
Roscommon Racecourse had a great evening here on August 5th and the men embraced the best dressed man competition which was won by local man, Jack Moran.
Jack is a regular racegoer who puts in a huge amount of time into running various syndicates for Ciaran Murphy whose yard is based in Mullingar.
Ricky Doyle and Martin Brassill were in double form and Martin confirmed that Fasterslow is on the comeback trail with the Durkan Chase the early season aim.
Roscommon Racecourse will have all the top riders in the country at today's meeting and everyone involved with Roscommon Race is delighted with the numbers attending here all year. It’s been fantastic and the track is standing up well to what has been a busy season.
Sponsors for the meet include QuinnBet, EBF, SIS, Willis Insurance Brokers, Abbey House Coffee Bar and Campbells Bar in Ballinlough. Our Best Turned out prizes are sponsored by YK signs, Athleague.
