A Roscommon GAA Club has been presented with €5,000 to help improve its ongoing infrastructure development after being chosen as the county winner of this year’s Texaco Support for Sport initiative.
Pádraig Pearses was described as an “iconic club” that is the “focal point” of the local community.
The South Roscommon club operates under the GAA’s “One Club” model, catering for ladies’ and men’s football, camogie and hurling.
It has recently received two awards acknowledging its commitment to fostering a healthy and culturally active community — a GAA Healthy Club 2023-2025 recognition and the Joe McDonagh/Glór na nGael Silver Medal for its promotion of Irish language and culture.
Last year the Club broke the 1,000 members mark for the first time in its rich 60 year history.
Previous County Roscommon winners were Tremane GAA Club (2021), Boyle GAA Club (2022) and Boyle Camogie Club (2023).
“Pádraig Pearses GAA Club is an iconic club that stands out due to its incredible self-pride.
“Its grounds are the focal point of its community and it’s evident to see how much the club means to everyone as a result the amazing care that goes in to keeping it the way it is. Congratulations to all involved,” commented former Irish rugby international and Texaco Support for Sport ambassador, Donncha O’Callaghan.
Entries for the 2025 Texaco Support for Sport initiative will open in the Autumn for all clubs, including those whose application may have been unsuccessful previously.
