Aisling Feely has expressed her pride in Roscommon securing an All Ireland semi final place.

Roscommon forward Aisling Feely has expressed her pride in her side defying the odds to beat Leitrim and reach an All Ireland semi final.

On May 3, Roscommon suffered a chastening 22 point defeat to Leitrim in the Connacht final. To come back and beat the same opposition two months later in the same venue by four points is an achievement to be proud of, claimed the Boyle clubwoman.

“Everyone would have wrote us off. Everyone knows what happened in the Connacht final. Twenty two points, an absolutely soul destroying defeat. The minute we found out we had Leitrim, we knew we had it in us to beat them.

“We owe them a beating. That feeling of revenge was in us and I think we just came out today and just absolutely put it up to them. I am so proud of the girls. The last two weeks in training, it has just been heads down stuff. It is too soon to end the journey. This group if players is so tight.

"I have never been in an All Ireland semi final. We found ourselves too often in the last few years in relegation play offs. Two weeks ago we could have found ourselves in a relegation battle again if we lost that Down game. One win opens your whole season up. I am so proud and so happy that we finally did it. Of all the teams to beat, we just needed to get that monkey off our back."
