Roscommon Gardaí have arrested a driver on suspicion of drug driving. A court prosecution is to follow.

Members of the Roscommon Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a checkpoint on the N5 in Strokestown when they stopped a car.

The driver subsequently tested positive for cannabis and methamphetamines.

The vehicle was also found to have no tax, insurance, or NCT.

The driver was arrested and the car was seized.

A conviction in court for drug driving comes with a mandatory road disqualification, a fine, and a possible prison sentence
