Local solicitors withdrew all their criminal services at Strokestown District Court this morning.
Solicitors withdrew their criminal services at Strokestown District Court this morning, Wednesday, as part of the escalating dispute nationwide over changes to the legal aid scheme.
As part of the protest, complete work stoppages are taking place on two days this week and three days next week.
Speaking on behalf of the solicitors at today’s District Court sitting in Strokestown, Mary Rose McNally informed Judge James Faughnan that they would be withdrawing their services.
“Judge, due to the current situation with the criminal legal aid flat fee which has been imposed on us, we are withdrawing our services today.
“As part of what our colleagues are doing around country, we are withdrawing our services and we are going to leave the court now,” she said before she and colleagues left the courtroom.
The majority of criminal court cases have been adjourned throughout the county this month as solicitors say they are unable to provide services due to the new regulations being imposed.
