After 25 years of service to Elphin Community College, caretaker Gary Brennan has retired.
On his final day, where his last act was to help unearth a time capsule buried by the Transition Year class of 1996, he reflected positively on his career and said “happiness” was his strongest feeling.
“I’m going out on good terms. The school’s going well, I’m well and healthy. I’m going to retire and enjoy it,” Mr Brennan said.
Across his near three decades as caretaker in the school, he noted the changes that Elphin Community College has gone through.
“It’s gone from being a country school with all local country young people to a multinational school with young people from different countries. The whole school is vibrant and its only going in one direction – and that’s up,” he remarked.
The highlight of his time in the school was, as he put simply, “the calibre of student".
“There’s no bad young people, they’re all good,” he concluded.
