A special healing Mass for 19-year-old Roosky native Coman Conroy, who sustained serious injuries in a road accident on Saturday, will be held tomorrow evening in his local church.

Following the accident in the early hours of yesterday morning at Cloonfad, Roosky, Coman was first brought to Tullamore Hospital and then transferred to Beaumont hospital in Dublin where he is being treated for serious injuries.

Local Independent councillor Tom Crosby said that he knows the young man’s family very well and “this has sent shockwaves through the community”.

“Coman is a lovely young man, is a college student and works part-time in a local shop. My sincere wishes go out to the family and community for his full recovery,” said Cllr Crosby.

Coman is a well-known player with Kilglass Gaels and the club will hold a healing Mass tomorrow evening, Monday, in Rooskey Church at 7.30 p.m. for his speedy recovery.

In a social media post, Kilglass Gaels GAA Club asked all club members, friends and the wider GAA community “to please keep our teammate and good friend Coman Conroy, in your thoughts and prayers after a serious accident yesterday."

“We are sending strength and support to Coman’s parents, brothers, family, teammates and friends at this time. Coman, you have all our best wishes and we look forward to having you back in the middle of the pitch soon,” said the club.

A Garda spokesperson said that gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic incident that occurred at Cloonfad, Roosky, in the early hours of Saturday, May 24th.

The spokesperson said that a young man aged in his late teens was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, and subsequently to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. No other injuries were reported at the time.
