That’s a wrap: Popular RTÉ correspondent calls it a day after 39 years

One of the country’s most popular RTÉ correspondents brought the curtain down on her career on Thursday (yesterday).
Eileen Magnier, who joined the national broadcaster in 1985 and was appointed regional correspondent for the northwest in July 1990, covered her final marking by interviewing Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD, at the launch of Ireland's first INSTO Observatory at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) in Sligo.
Mrs Magnier, who became RTÉ’s first female correspondent, has reported from Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal and beyond, across all of RTÉ's flagship news programmes on television, radio and on digital platforms during her career.
Mother of three adult children and wife of retired school teacher and former Mayo footballer, TJ Kilgallon, Eileen is looking forward to stepping down from what was a demanding but thoroughly demanding job.
“It can be a tough job, emotionally draining, physically exhausting but also hugely satisfying and as a team, I know we all do our best to represent the people of the areas we cover in the true spirit of public service broadcasting," she said last month when she announced her retirement.
