Tributes paid to man who died in Boyle accident
The young father, who was in his 40s, was killed in a machinery accident.
Tributes have been paid to Dr Michael Feely, assistant professor of Social Studies at Trinity College, Dublin who passed away last week following a tragic accident outside Boyle.
The young father, who was in his 40s, was killed in a machinery accident while renovating a house in the Assylinn area of the town on Tuesday evening last, July 28th.
Offering condolences one Boyle family stated: “We are all so shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Michael. We were only getting to know you all, and I have no doubt you would all have become our good friends and neighbours. As a family we express our deepest condolences. The people of the town were shocked to hear this sad news. I've had many people who were only getting to know Michael or met him in the town, comment on his jolly friendly nature. We are so sorry for your great loss. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.”
A Trinity College colleague also stated: “It is so sad to lose a wonderful warm, thoughtful, kind, good humoured and supportive colleague. It was a privilege to work with Michael who was such an inspiring intellect with an incredible mind, generous way of seeing the world and absolute dedication to inclusion. I will really miss Michael.”
Tributes have also been pouring in from his former students. “I had the privilege of being taught by a truly amazing man during my time at Trinity. Michael had an extraordinary impact on me, not only through his teaching, but through the genuine support and encouragement he gave me in getting into Trinity. His inclusivity was beyond inspirational. His approach was never about following the norm; he thought differently, challenged convention, and saw possibilities where others didn’t. That kind of outside-the-box thinking resonated with me on every level, and it is something I will always carry with me.
“It is incredibly difficult to put into words that we now have to say goodbye to such an amazing human being. The world feels darker and sadder without him. Thank you, Michael, for believing in me, for encouraging me, and for showing me that there is more than one way to make a difference. You will be remembered with immense gratitude and admiration for a very long time to come,” stated one student.
From East Wall Road in Dublin and formerly Rathgar he is survived by his wife Jennifer (Cole) and his children Daniel and Alice. He was the son of the late Professor John Feely.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family, his mother Deirdre, sister Claire, brothers Robert and John, father-in-law Adrian, mother-in-law Bernadette, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and a wide circle of friends.
He will be reposing in Fanagan’s Funeral Home, Willbrook Road, Rathfarnham, D14 W029 tomorrow Tuesday (August 4th) from 3-5 p.m..
A celebration of Dr Feely’s life will take place on Wednesday (August 5th) at 11 a.m. in Christ Church, Rathgar, Rathgar Road, D06 CF63.
