“Two inspirational figures who leave a remarkable legacy”

The late Don Connellan and the late Paul Clancy were brother-in-laws and Moycullen GAA club mates.

Many tributes have been paid following the untimely death on Monday of double All-Ireland winning Galway senior footballer, Paul Clancy (49).

Paul won two Celtic Cross medals in 1998 and 2001 for the Tribesman, who were managed by the late John O’Mahony from Ballaghaderreen.

Tributes have been pouring in since the sad news of the Moycullen player's passing.

Well-known journalist John Fallon of Media West Ireland, in expressing his condolences, also paid tribute to Paul’s brother-in-law and former Roscommon player, Don Connellan.

The Kilmore native passed away in August, aged just 51. Both Don and Paul were also Moycullen GAA club mates.

“Deepest sympathy to the Clancy and Fahy families, to all of Paul's friends, colleagues and the community in Moycullen which he served so well. It's devastating, especially coming so soon after the death of Don. Two inspirational figures who leave a remarkable legacy,” said John. “Paul was a pleasure to deal with down through the years, from back in the days when I was in The Connacht Tribune when he thrilled us with his exploits on the field to more recent times when he was directing matters off it. He took it all in his stride. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Paul is survived by his wife Johanna, children Ellen and Finn, his mother Mary, sisters Linda and Ailish, brother Gearóid and wider family and relatives. He is predeceased by his father Padraic and brother-in-law Don Connellan.

He will be laid to rest on Friday, June 26th at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Moycullen following Funeral Mass.
