Members of Ballyfeeney Action Group and Ballyfeeney NS representatives handing the objections into the council this morning.

More than 150 objections have been lodged against plans by Ballyfeeney Green Energy limited to construct six large wind turbines in east Roscommon.

Members of Ballyfeeney Action Group arrived at Roscommon County Council Headquarters this morning, Friday, to personally hand in local people’s objections to the windfarm.

Impact on local tourism and wildlife, devaluation of homes, noise pollution, shadow flicker, and vibrations are among the concerns being highlighted.

The turbine heights have been described as being equivalent to the Spire in Dublin with a 12 storey building on top.

A number of public meetings have already been held in opposition to the windfarm planned between Kilglass and Scramogue.

Ballyfeeney National School’s Board of Management has also voiced its opposition to the proposals.

Independent councillor Tom Crosby again urged the Government to enact the forthcoming legislation in relation to wind energy infrastructure.

He said the current windfarm planning guidelines were almost 20 years old and  in desperate need of being updated.

County planners are due to make a decision on the planned development by December 23rd.

Chairperson and secretary/PRO of the Action Group, Conor Maher and Rory Doyle spoke to the Herald this morning.
