Double Olympian and County Roscommon boxer, Aoife O’Rourke, has secured at least a bronze medal and a place in the World Boxing Championships semi-finals.
In her last 75kg quarter-final bout in Liverpool this afternoon, the Tarmon native got off to a flying start in the first round against Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad and proceeded to dominate the three round contest.
Her intensity on the front front disrupted the rhythm of Hofstad throughout, impressing four of the five judges in the first two rounds.
O'Rourke continued to be the primary aggressor in the final round and secured a dominant 4-1 victory on the score cards.
The 28-year-old can now look forward to setting her sights on at least a silver medal in the semi-final on Saturday when she meets Lena Wang of China.
