Roscommon's hopes of All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship glory have been dashed after pre-match favourites Armagh proved too strong in this afternoon's semi-final at Kingspan Breffni.

Mary Grehan's side only found themselves four points behind at the break before Armagh turned on the after-burners in the second half to prevail by 2-17 to 1-8.

Tara Naughton's early goal from a long-range free gave Roscommon an early boost, but the same player saw a penalty saved by Armagh goalkeeper, Ciarrai Devlin, soon afterwards.

Armagh hit back with a goal of their own when wing-forward Eimear McGeary found the net after her initial shot was saved by Michaela Fallon.

The winners moved 1-5 to 1-0 clear, thanks to Rachael Merry's accuracy, but Roscommon gained some traction, thanks to scores from Sarah Dooley and Naughton to trail by 1-8 to 1-4 at the break.

But Armagh upped the ante in the second half, and Sinead Quinn's 33rd minute goal effectively killed off the tie.

Indeed the scoreboard could have been worse from a Roscommon perspective, but Michaela Fallon made a number of outstanding saves.

Afterwards, manager Mary Grehan said that her players had been "magnificent" during the season, and vowed to stay in charge to try and bring All-Ireland glory to the county.
