LGFA: Hard luck to the junior ladies’ football team who were beaten by Éire Óg in the league on Sunday last. The club wishes Lisa O’Rourke and the Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football team every success in their league final against Clare in Birr on Saturday next at 4 p.m..
OTHER NEWS: Well done to Daniel Scahill who won a Division Three League title with Westmeath in Croke Park on Saturday evening. Daniel is the son of former Castlerea St. Kevin’s midfielder, David Scahill, who won two county senior medals with the club in 2003 and 2008. Good luck to Chairman Tommie Finneran and all involved in the Trien drama — Mammy’s Boy — starting this Thursday night in the Trinity Arts Centre at 8.30 p.m.. Best of luck to Dermot Lyons who travels to London this weekend to officiate as a lineman in the Galway versus London championship game.

RIAN SHERIDAN, RIP: Kilbride GAA Club and the wider community endured a very difficult week after the tragic and untimely passing of intermediate player and team-mate, Rian Sheridan. The sense of shock and sadness within the community is beyond words. Rian was part of the Kilbride community for many years but, more recently, he joined Kilbride GAA as a player for the 2024 season. He played at full-back with distinction during the intermediate team’s first two league games this season. Rian was described by those who knew him best as a person of integrity who was positive, respectful and genuine. His talents extended beyond the football field. He was noted as a hard and dedicated worker, as well as an accomplished musician. As a community, the club extends its sincere sympathy to his parents, Finan and Maria, his sisters Ciara, Doireann, Aebhín, and his loving girlfriend Áine Griffin, the extended Sheridan family in Renvyle, Galway, and the Griffin family in Fourmilehouse. As a mark of respect to the Sheridan and Griffin families, there was a full cessation of all club activity over the weekend.
LGFA: All ladies’ football club activities were suspended over the weekend due to the tragic death of Rian Sheridan. Kilbride LGFA extends its deepest sympathy to Áine, the Griffin family and the Sheridan family. May Rian Rest In Peace. Well done to Sadhbh Shally and the Roscommon U-14 girls who got their championship campaign off to a winning start by beating both Sligo and Mayo. Hard luck to Ivannah, Laura and Albert on their loss to Galway. Best of luck to Aisling Hanly, Aisling Shanagher and the Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football team in the Division Three League final against Clare on Saturday in Birr at 4 p.m.. ANNE AND LIESEL MEMORIAL DAY: Thanks to everyone who organised and participated in the Anne and Liesel Memorial Day in Peadar Earley Park and Community Centre. The occasion was well-supported and everyone had a great day. Well done to the players who took part in the underage games, alongside the ladies’ football and senior men’s games.
U-14 SUCCESS: Well done to Tommy Keane, manager of the Roscommon U-14 girls’ football team, who recorded good wins over Mayo and Sligo in the opening stage of the Connacht championship at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence last weekend. Well done also to Robyn Keane and Sarah Gorman who were part of the panel. Congratulations to Vivienne Gannon who is on the county U-16 panel.
U-20 TEAM: Well done to Robert Heneghan and Daniel Hagney who were part of the Roscommon U-20 men’s football panel that drew with Sligo on Wednesday last.
FIXTURES: The U-16s play Kilconly on Tuesday, April 2nd, in Glenamaddy GAA pitch at 6.30 p.m.. The U-19 team’s first league game is away to Caherlistrane on Thursday, April 4th, at 4.45 p.m.. Support would be greatly appreciated.
O’ROURKE CUP: Oran 0-13, Clann na nGael 0-11. The senior footballers travelled to Johnstown for the third round of the O’Rourke Cup on Friday night. The home side started strongly, creating plenty of space in the forward line and taking some fine scores. Oran kept in touch with points from Charlie Carthy and Darragh Walsh. Then the visitors were given a big boost when Clann na nGael received a black card on the stroke of half time. Yet they trailed 0-10 to 0-6 at the break. Oran were a different team in the second half, making their numerical advantage count to tie the contest at 0-10 apiece. Their defence held firm, keeping Clann to only one point after the break. Ross Earley and Jack Casey got on the scoresheet to give Oran the two league points. Oran’s next game in the competition is against Castlerea St. Kevin’s on April 13th in Creggs. U-20 PLAYERS: Congratulations to the club’s six representatives on the Roscommon U-20 hurling and football squads who both recorded good results in Sligo last week. The U-20 hurlers, with Jack Ryan, Seán Canning and Keelan Ryan on board, have qualified for the All-Ireland semi-final against Mayo on the first weekend in May. Meanwhile, the footballers, including Conor Harley, Adam McGreal and Conor Ryan, play Galway on April 10th in Dr. Hyde Park.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL: Best of luck to Ella Thompson and the Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football team who take on Clare in the Division Three League final on Saturday next, April 6th, in Birr at 4 p.m.. Congratulations to Ailish Burke, Aisling Kennedy, Ava Smyth, Éabhanna Sheridan and the Roscommon U-14 girls’ football panel who defeated Mayo and Sligo in the first stage of the Connacht Series last weekend. The girls beat Mayo by 3-1 to 0-4 and Sligo by 5-12 to 3-2. The girls will now prepare for Stage Two where they will play Leitrim and Galway on Saturday, April 13th.
TABLE QUIZ: St. Croan’s GAA and LGFA will host their annual table quiz on Friday, April 19th, at 8.30 p.m. in the Fr. Flanagan Community Centre, Ballymoe. Please note the change of date. All proceeds will go towards the development of the club gym. There can be tables of four for €40 or €10 each. SENIOR SCÓR COUNTY CHAMPIONS: Congratulations to the club’s newly crowned Roscommon Senior Scór county champions — Niamh Reynolds who won the solo singing title, and to Aoife and Cathal Guckian, Chloe McGuinness and Niamh Reynolds who combined to take the senior ballad group title. A special word of congratulations also to their dedicated mentor, Ann-Marie Harte, and to the club’s proud Cultural Officer, Geraldine McMorrow, who keeps the Scór flag flying in St. Michael's. Well done also to the club’s quiz team who competed well on the night. The club also congratulates neighbours, St. Ronan's, who won the instrumental music title, and to all the other winners who will represent Roscommon in the Connacht finals on Sunday, April 14th.
O'GARA CUP: The intermediate team, sponsored by Joe Simon Home, Garden and Build, registered their second consecutive draw in the O'Gara Cup on Saturday afternoon. The home side led from the first minute until the closing stages when a Creggs goal gave the visitors a two-point advantage. However, the lads responded well and two late scores rescued a deserved share of the spoils on a full-time scoreline of St. Michael's 0-10, Creggs 1-7.

CÚL CAMP IN COOTEHALL: This summer, St. Michael's GAA Club will host a Kellogg's Cúl Camp in Ardcarne Park, Cootehall, running from Monday, July 8th to Friday, July 12th. LGFA: The junior ladies’ footballers suffered their first loss of the season against a strong St. Faithleach's side on Sunday last. Two goals just before the half-time break helped the visitors to a commanding 12-point lead. Undaunted, the home side produced a strong third quarter, which saw the deficit reduced to just four points. But the Ballyleague side steadied the ship and sealed the win on a full-time scoreline of St. Michael's/St. Ronan's 2-4, St. Faithleach's 4-7. The next outing for the team is away to Oran on Sunday next, April 7th, at 11 a.m. in Rockfield.
UNDERAGE GIRLS: The U-16 girls resume their Division One League campaign with a home game against Pádraig Pearses at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 7th.
The U-12 girls get their season underway next weekend with games away to Boyle at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 7th (2013s), and at home to Roscommon Gaels at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 8th (2012s). Best of luck to all the teams. Support would be greatly appreciated.
JUNIOR QUIZ: A huge thank to you to everyone who supported the quiz in aid of Act for Meningitis last Thursday, which raised €760 for the charity.
WELL DONE ANN: The club congratulates Ann Wynne on winning a bronze medal at the European Indoor Athletics Championships last week.
