Roscommon U-20 football manager, Cian Smith, has targeted greater efficiency in front of goal as the main area to improve on following his side’s opening round provincial championship defeat against Galway on Wednesday evening.

In a game where Roscommon finished up with 12 wides and only converted three of their 15 scoring chances during a wind-assisted opening half, the Boyle native had little complaints about the final result.

“It took us a while to get going. We were just a bit off it for whatever reason. It is something we will have to look at.

“But there are lot of positives too. Twenty-five attacks in the first half, but only three scores were the killer. Any day we have 25 attacks in a half, I would take it, but you would expect a better return. That is something we’ll have to look at.

“In the overall picture it doesn’t change a lot. Whether we won or lost we still had to go put in a performance against Sligo. They will be gunning for us, the same way they always are. If we are not ready, we will be in trouble,” he noted.
