Burke admits comments after Cavan game born out of frustration at not meeting standards

Davy Burke has admitted that his comments last week about Roscommon having "no business being in a league final" were born out of frustration at not meeting standards in front of the home fans at King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park.
Despite last week’s two-point defeat against Cavan and a draw against Westmeath at TEG Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon, Roscommon secured a fifth promotion to Division One since 2015 after Cavan and Meath lost their games.
When asked whether he was surprised that last week’s comments had attracted so much attention locally and nationally, Burke replied: “I try to block it out. It's all noise really.
“We were disappointed, there's no point in lying. We respect the Hyde. We really want to win all of our games every time we play there, and we didn't.
“We all felt that we didn't meet our standards but I'm much much happier with the 50-odd minute performance today. Obviously, the last 20 minutes weren't top but now we drive on for next weekend (against Monaghan in the Division Two League final).
“We didn't meet our standards as a group — the whole lot of us — so we had a good chat about it during the week.
“We did our review like usual. We weren't happy with where we were at with the group. I think we bounced back for a good part of the game (today), and let's hope next week we can do a bit more and hopefully move on into championship,” he said.
