Roscommon senior football manager, Davy Burke, has slammed the commentary on social media last week following an incident involving Cathal Heneghan and Kerry full-back Jason Foley during last Sunday’s league game at Dr. Hyde Park.
Heneghan received a one-match ban for the incident, but Burke, who was speaking following his side's defeat in Derry, has defended the Michael Glaveys player who was subjected to unpleasant comments on various social media platforms last week.
“Social media is a massive problem. I would have pulled Cathal aside during the week. It’s not a nice place to be, particularly for a 23 or 24-year old. It’s rotten, it’s toxic. Something has to be done about it.
“Cathal absolutely didn’t mean it. Yes, he stood on Jason Foley’s leg. He took his suspension and we’ll move on but it’s terrible the way these people on social media can disrespect a player and drag him through the mud like that,” he said.
Following Kerry’s victory against Galway in Killarney on Sunday, Kingdom boss Jack O’Connor clarified that the injury sustained by Jason Foley had nothing to do with the incident involving Heneghan, and that the injury resulted from a “separate incident”.
