The iconic Connacht GAA Air Dome has been destroyed by Storm Éowyn.

Connacht GAA Secretary, John Prenty, confirmed the news to RTÉ, saying it blew down at approximately 4 a.m. this morning.

On Thursday, the Convent of Mercy, Roscommon Town, defeated St. Attracta’s Tubbercurry in the Dome to win the Connacht A Schools’ title for the first time since 2009.

The multi-million euro facility in Bekan, near Ballyhaunis, opened in 2020 and has been a huge success.

It has hosted indoor games at all levels, including the pre-season FBD competition which Roscommon won in 2024.

Last night’s record-breaking winds destroyed the inflated roof, although Mr Prenty has vowed that Connacht GAA would rebuild the facility.

In a statement, Connacht GAA said: "Unfortunately, the University of Galway Connacht GAA Air Dome was significantly damaged by Storm Éowyn overnight, thankfully no one was hurt.

"Thanks to everyone for their support, it is our full intention to rebuild this magnificent facility as soon as possible."
