County junior camogie team appoint new manager

New Roscommon junior camogie manager, Mary Grehan, with her father Frank.
Roscommon’s flagship camogie team has a new manager.
Former dual player, Mary Grehan, has been handed a three-year term as manager of the county junior camogie team, which will compete in this season’s Division 3A League and All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship.
A former county player in both camogie and ladies’ football, the Dunmore Community School teacher led the Roscommon U-16 camogie panel to All-Ireland glory in 2019, kickstarting a lucrative haul of national titles at underage level for the county.
She takes over from Eoin Hardiman and Cian Ryan who were at the helm for the last two years.
The new manager comes from a family with a proud sporting tradition. Her father Frank has been involved in various teams with Roscommon and his native St. Aidan’s, while her brothers Tommy and Francie were intercounty footballers — the latter winning an All-Star for the Rossies in 2001.
“Our goal is to win the All-Ireland. That’s what I think this team are capable of,” Grehan told the
“It will be difficult. We have girls heading off on J1s and doing their Leaving Cert in the summer, while a number of dual players can’t commit. We understand that young people are under a lot of pressure in today’s world, but we’ll work with them to try and bring out the best in everybody for the betterment of Roscommon camogie,” she said.
Mairead O’Beirne (strength and conditioning), former Roscommon hurler Liam Murray (St. Dominic’s) and former Galway senior ladies’ footballer, Barbara Hannon, are also part of Grehan’s management team.
The team are scheduled to get their Division 3A League campaign underway in March.
