After the final round of Division 1 league games last night, St. Brigid’s and Roscommon Gaels will meet in the O’Rourke Cup final once more.
The two sides met in last year’s final with St. Brigid’s cruising to victory. The meeting sees the last two winners of the O’Rourke Cup face off in this year’s final after Roscommon Gaels won the 2023 decider.
St. Brigid’s secured top spot in the group as they beat Strokestown 3-12 to 0-8.
Strokestown kicked the opening point of the game but the reigning champions quickly reclaimed control as they scored 2-7 without reply from there until half time.
Charlie O’Carroll and Ruaidhrí Fallon found the net in the opening half while Ronan Stack grabbed his side’s third major to secure their final berth.
They will face Roscommon Gaels in the final as the Town side managed to withstand a furious St. Faithleach’s fightback on Thursday evening.
Pádraig Pearses had the chance to usurp Roscommon Gaels and ensure the last two Fahey Cup winners met in the league final.
However, the Woodmount based side lost out 2-19 to 1-16 against Clann na nGael. A goal in either half from Graham Pettit ensured the home side ended their campaign on a high.
Shane Carty netted for Pearses at the start of the second half but they were denied by a fired up Clann outfit as St. Brigid’s and Roscommon Gaels will renew rivalries once more.
