Monaghan senior football manager, Gabriel Bannigan, has confirmed that emerging star forward, Bobby McCaul, will miss Saturday week's championship game against Roscommon in Clones.

McCaul caused havoc against Mayo last time out, hitting 1-1, before retiring with a knee injury, and Bannigan, speaking to RTÉ, confirmed that the Aughnamullen youngster had suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

"When you see a young lad on the physio table in such pain you know he has a long road ahead.

"First and foremost, from a personal point of view, I'm gutted for Bobby and Bobby's family, it's a terrible blow.

"I know just how hard he had worked to get fit, we had to hold him back because he was champing at the bit.

"It's so tough on him, so tough on his club and so tough on Monaghan football," said Bannigan.
