Ollie Lennon has stepped aside as manager of the Roscommon Intermediate ladies football team.

The Pádraig Pearses clubman made the decision after his side suffered a 3-13 to 3-11 defeat at the hands of Leitrim on Sunday in the TG4 All Ireland Intermediate quarter final.

Lennon was appointed in October 2021 as he helped Roscommon to secure the Division 3 league title in his first year at the helm. Roscommon suffered relegation the following season after a string of narrow defeats before they secured a return to Division 2 football for 2025 after progressing through to the league final against Clare last April.

Roscommon were defeated in that league decider against Clare while they also fell to Leitrim in the Connacht final by two points. Roscommon entered that provincial decider as reigning champions after defeating Leitrim in the 2023 final.

Lennon was controversially dismissed late last year before he was subsequently re-instated. Despite a challenging winter, Lennon’s charges produced a strong start to the year before seeing their campaign ended by Leitrim in Ballinamore last weekend.

A statement from Roscommon LGFA thanked Lennon for his service: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce Ollie Lennon decision to step down as Roscommon Ladies Intermediate Football Manager after three years in charge. During which he led Roscommon to win the Connacht Intermediate Football Championship title in 2023 and the All Ireland Division 3 league title in 2022. Roscommon LGFA wish to thank Ollie for his service, for the tireless work put in by him and his management team the last three years.

“His work as a manager and an ambassador for the game, went above and beyond. We wish Ollie and his management team the best of luck in all their future endeavours. Roscommon Chairperson Declan Walsh thanked Ollie and his management team and wished them the very best of luck going forward. The process of discussing the appointment of a new manager will begin.”
