Diarmuid Murtagh may have received his first All-Star nomination on Thursday mornning, but the announcement didn’t detract from his focus on Saturday evening’s senior football championship quarter-final against Clann na nGael.

A Player of the Match performance that yielded 1-7 (1-4 from play) alongside a ravenous workrate that saw him pop up everywhere, Murtagh delivered on his promise as Faithleach’s set up a last four meeting against St. Brigid’s or Pádraig Pearses.

“It was a nice touch during the week. I woke up on Thursday and found out about the nomination but my focus all week was on this game,” he reflected.

“The effort that these lads have put in throughout the year has been unbelievable. When I come back (from county), I want to give everything to them. I’m just delighted for those lads, given the effort they put in, to get a win like this.

“We’ve a small group of players and that suits us. We’re really close as a group. When it comes down to the wire in games like these, we know what we’re capable of because we have each other’s backs. It’s a testament to the lads and how close we are as a club,” he said.
