The Roscommon senior hurlers eased their relegation worries with a three-point victory against Cavan at King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park on Saturday afternoon.
Brendan Mulry's third minute goal proved crucial as the home side kept a plucky Cavan challenge at bay to emerge victorious.
Roscommon made a blistering start and were 1-4 to 0-1 ahead after six minutes but Cavan, led by Liam O'Brien and Nicholas Kenny, made a game of it and were always in contention.
The scores came thick and fast during a frenetic first half that saw Roscommon lead by 1-12 to 0-12 at the break.
Both goalkeeper, Enda Lawless and Conor Gallagher, also made a number of smart saves.
Mulry and Finn Killion were to the fore early on, while Robbie Fallon was top scorer with 0-5, including four frees.
Kenny, who was named at corner-forward but lined out at midfield, hit a hat-trick of second half points but Cavan could get no closer than two points.
Late points from Killion and wing-back Micheál Hussey confirmed Roscommon's victory and subsequently moved them away from the relegation zone with a home game against Sligo to come.
