A Roscommon senior footballer is set for a club transfer to County Meath.
The
understands that Niall Higgins, who has been one of the leading lights in the Roscommon defence for the past two seasons, will make the move from Elphin to Navan O’Mahonys this season.Higgins works with An Garda Síochana in the north-east of the country and lives in the County Meath town.
He played a leading role for Elphin last season as they scaled the summit of the Roscommon intermediate football championship, beating neighbours Strokestown in the final.
However, his departure represents a blow to Nigel Dineen’s side as they look to consolidate their senior status later this year.
In other transfer news, the GAA has also given the green light for Ryan Dowling to transfer from Kilbride to Roscommon Gaels.
Dowling was a hugely influential figure for the Kilbride intermediate footballers last season, helping to maintain their championship status.
He also scored 1-2 when he was introduced for the Roscommon U-20 footballers during their 2024 Connacht final success against Galway at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, Castlebar.
