Roscommon GAA pays tribute to former county hurler and official

The late Tommy Healy who passed away earlier this week.

A former county hurler and official, who served as Roscommon Hurling Board Chairperson for 17 years, has been remembered by Roscommon GAA.

The late Tommy Healy, Galway Road, Roscommon and formerly of Tremane, Athleague, passed away peacefully on April 9th, surrounded by his loving family, in the devoted care of the staff at The Roscommon Hospice, after a long illness bravely borne.

In a tribute, Roscommon GAA said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tommy Healy.

“Tommy played hurling for Roscommon in the late 1960s, winning a Connacht club medal with Tremane in 1976. He also served as Roscommon GAA Hurling Board Chairperson for 17 years.

“We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Tommy’s wife Lena, to his sons, Damien and Paul. and to his extended family.”

Predeceased by his brothers Jimmy and John and by his sister Mary Margaret, the late Tommy Healy was a much loved husband to Lena, proud Dad to Damien and Paul and adoring grandad to Lucy and Fiadh.

He will be forever missed by his family, daughter-in-law Jackie, Paul’s partner Noelle, brothers Pakie and Tim, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, colleagues and many friends.

Reposing at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon (F42 NH27) on Friday evening between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m..

Removal from his home on Saturday morning at 10.30 a.m. arriving at the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m.. Burial afterwards in Athleague Cemetery.
