A Roscommon man will get the chance to line out in Croke Park next week after the University of Limerick (UL) overcame Queen’s University Belfast in an epic Sigerson Cup semi final.

St. Barry’s Cillian Campbell helped UL move a step closer to winning their first Sigerson Cup as they came from behind to defeat Queen’s University Belfast after extra time.

Campbell helped Roscommon claim the Connacht U-20 title in 2024 while he was part of the team that reached this year’s provincial final at the age grade. He helped UL win the All Ireland Freshers B title in March 2024 while he produced a crucial goalline block to ensure the Limerick based college secured their first Division One league title last November.

UL were forced to battle for their place in this year’s final. They trailed by five points deep in injury time but Conal Dawson’s two-pointer was followed by a sensational goal from the same player to send the contest to extra time.

There UL managed to propel themselves 3-18 to 1-19 in front at the change of ends. Despite Queen’s University managing to level the contest with a two-pointer and goal inside the opening 65 seconds of the final period, UL found an extra gear to set up a Sigerson Cup final with UCC on Wednesday next.

Meanwhile, Pádraig Pearses' Eoin Colleran kicked 1-2 for the University of Galway in their Sigerson Cup semi final defeat to UCC.

Pádraig Pearses' Conor Harley, Sean Garavan of Boyle and Western Gaels' Rory Hester were also on the University of Galway panel.
