The GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) have released details for the final round of games in this year’s All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
Roscommon are set for a crunch meeting with Cork in Portlaoise, while King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park has been selected to host the blockbuster clash between Mayo and Donegal.
Davy Burke’s men will travel to Laois Hire O’Moore Park on Saturday week, June 14th, to face the Rebels in what is a “do or die” battle for both counties. The game will throw in at 4.15 p.m.. Roscommon need at least a draw to secure their progression to the preliminary quarter-finals.
The Rossies’ last championship game in Portlaoise was during the 2018 heatwave when they saw off Armagh by 1-22 to 1-19.
At the same time, Kerry will play Meath at Glenisk O’Connor Park, Tullamore.
Meanwhile, King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park is set to host one of the biggest games of the year so far on Sunday week, June 15th.
The home of Roscommon GAA will be the venue for the eagerly anticipated meeting between Mayo and Donegal where both sides’ championship aspirations will be on the line. Throw-in will be 4 p.m..
The game is expecting to attract close to a sellout crowd of 20,000, which will ensure another bonanza weekend for businesses around Roscommon Town.
With Markievicz Park, Sligo, out of commission and Croke Park not being used for the final round of group games, the Hyde was widely touted as the likely venue to host the game.
Roscommon GAA Chairperson, Brian Carroll, is the current chairperson of the CCCC.
Last year, the Roscommon Town venue hosted the meeting between Dublin and Mayo, which ended in a thrilling draw before a crowd of just under 15,000.
Donegal’s last championship visit to the Hyde was in 2018 when Michael Murphy inspired his side to a 0-20 to 0-13 victory against the Rossies in the Super 8s.
It has been a huge couple of weeks for the venue after hosting Roscommon’s match against Meath last Saturday, which attracted a crowd of 7,500, and the Tailteann Cup meeting between Sligo and Kildare on Sunday.
Next Sunday, the Hyde will host the All-Ireland minor football championship quarter-final between Mayo and Offaly, with the Faithful County expected to bring a large following on the back of its first Leinster minor football success since 1989.
Meanwhile, Galway’s game against Armagh, which is a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland final, will take place at Kingspan Breffni, Cavan, on Saturday week, June 14th, at 6.30 p.m..
The other game in the group between Dublin and Derry will take place in Newry at the same time.
