St. Brigid’s star shares same field with his hero to copperfasten county title success

When nine-year-old Bobby Nugent posed for a photograph with his hero, Senan Kilbride, after winning the Fahey Cup in 2012, little did he think that he would share the same field with the St. Brigid’s legend to win the club’s 19th Roscommon SFC title.
But that’s what happened on Saturday afternoon as Kilbride and Nugent were on the same starting 15 as Brigid’s saw off Pádraig Pearses, 1-16 to 1-12, in the Roscommon SFC final replay at King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park.
Kilbride has spent the last five years in Dubai but returned to the St. Brigid’s line-up for his first championship start since 2020 to win his 12th county senior football championship medal.
While Nugent was only winning his second county senior medal, the way he strutted his stuff around the Hyde, ending up as his side’s joint top scorer with 0-5 alongside Ben O’Carroll, his hero from 13 years ago would certainly have approved.
