St. Dominic’s were crowned county senior camogie champions for the first time since 2022 as they withstood a determined Oran fightback to prevail 1-7 to 2-3.
John Haughey’s side had lost the last two county finals and had fallen short in four of the last six deciders before this encounter.
They were deserving winners on this occasion as even though two late goals from Oran substitute Grainne Whyte ensured set up a tense finale, St. Dominic’s held on.
The winners led 0-2 to 0-1 at the end of a lacklustre first half. Erin McDermott got Oran off the mark before frees from Lilly Murray and Niamh Fitzgerald helped St. Dominic’s lead.
That advantage could have been greater, but Michaela Fallon saved Fitzgerald’s penalty on the stroke of half time.
St. Dominic’s moved 0-5 to 0-1 ahead through efforts from Fitzgerald (free), Niamh Watson and Michaela Lohan before a pair of Hazel Kelly efforts cut the gap to two.
St. Dominic’s looked to have done enough when Lilly Murray’s long range free found the net but Whyte’s goal in the next passage of play set up a grandstand finish.
Michaela Lohan and Murray (free) gave their side a four point buffer and even Whyte’s injury time goal couldn’t deny St. Dominic’s their redemption.
Meanwhile, in the Senior B decider, Four Roads defeated Athleague 1-10 to 0-8.
Athleague led 0-7 to 0-3 at half time but seven pointed frees from Shauna Fallon and a goal in the fourth minute of injury time from sub Donna Kelly helped Four Roads prevail.
