Tremane and St. Dominic’s share the spoils

Meanwhile, Roscommon Gaels picked up their first win of the Kepak Roscommon SHC against Athleague
Tremane and St. Dominic’s share the spoils

Ethan Connaughton saw his St. Dominic's side draw with Tremane in the second round of the championship.

Tremane 2-12 St. Dominic’s 2-12

Tremane and St. Dominic’s were forced to settle for a draw in a topsy-turvy affair.

Tremane struck the final three points of the game as Peter Kellehan’s brace and an Evan Murray effort ensured both sides left Creggs with a point apiece.

Tremane led this game, 1-6 to 0-7 at half time.

John Brennan’s 11th minute goal proved to be the separator as the underdogs deservedly led, despite firing in eight opening half wides.

Mike Keaveney’s side raced out of the traps in the final period, scoring 1-3 without reply at the start of the new half as Evan Murray produced an unstoppable shot to the net.

That put Tremane 2-9 to 0-9 ahead but they were held scoreless for the next 17 minutes. During that time, St. Dominic’s rattled off 2-5 without reply as Naos Connaughton (20-metre free) and Micheál Byrne netted.

But Tremane bagged the final three scores of the game while Evan Murray and Kevin Brennan saw chances go abegging.

At the other end, Seán Mahony produced a superb diving block from Noel Watson’s effort.

Both sides are now on three points in the table as the battle for a semi-final spot heats up.

Roscommon Gaels 0-17 Athleague 1-12

Roscommon Gaels bounced back from their opening round defeat to Tremane as they edged past a wasteful Athleague side.

Ultimately, Robbie Fallon’s side will be left to rue 15 wides, 12 of which came in the second half.

Roscommon Gaels started brightly with Matthew Finneran, Ciarán Mulry and David King all arrowing over. They held a buffer thereafter while Richard Walsh pitched in with three opening half scores to help the winners lead 0-9 to 0-5 at half time.

Roscommon Gaels maintained that advantage in the third quarter but Athleague gave themselves a lifeline when Eoghan Coyle fired a bullet-like finish to the net. A Cormac Kelly free moments later left just a point between the sides, 0-15 to 1-11, with six minutes remaining.

But late scores from Ciarán Mulry and Tom Biesty were enough for Roscommon Gaels to get off the mark.
