St. Coman’s handballer Fiona Tully has qualified for the Ladies’ Open Singles final at the World Wallball Championships following a nailbiting semi-final victory against Eilise McCrory in Limerick this afternoon.

The Kilbride ladies’ footballer was edged out in the first game 21-20, but came back to win the second 21-13, before prevailing 11-7 in a tiebreaker.

“I always knew playing Eilise that it was never going to be easy. Any time we ever play, it always seems to go to a tiebreaker,” she said afterwards.

“Myself and Eilise go back a long way. We’re the same age. You never know what way it’s going to go between us.

“I kind of felt I needed to give it everything in the second game, and thank God I did,” she added.

Tully will return to the court on Friday afternoon for the final where she will have the opportunity to become world champion when she plays Martina McMahon at 1 p.m..
