One of Roscommon’s key players during their march to Connacht U-20 football glory has been called into the county senior football set-up ahead of the upcoming All-Ireland Series.
Shane McGinley trained with Davy Burke’s senior squad for the first time on Wednesday (yesterday) evening following a string of impressive performances during the U-20 team’s six-game run, which was ended by Tyrone at the All-Ireland semi-final stage last Saturday.
McGinley joins U-20 team-mate, Senan Lambe, in the squad. Lambe has been with the senior set-up since the start of the season and saw some game time in the FBD competition last January.
“Senan and Shane are back in with us. We’re looking forward to having them back because the one thing with them is that they’re full of confidence. They’re full of beans. They’ve been playing every seven days.
“We obviously know a lot about Senan because we’ve had him for the last six months or so. From what I’ve seen of Shane, he looks like a player that’s full of confidence. He was very sharp up in Cavan and during the previous matches. It’s great to bring him in. Let’s see if they can get up to the pace quickly. If they can, brilliant, and if they can’t they’ll be ready for next year,” Burke told the
.The Roscommon manager also provided an injury update on his squad, which travel to Croke Park to take on Dublin in the opening game of Group 2 in the All-Ireland SFC on Saturday week.
“The injury situation is fairly good. There are plenty of lads with knocks. You’re minding lads and managing loads.
“Keith Doyle is back, he hasn’t missed a minute in the last month at least.
"Cathal Heneghan is another couple of weeks away. He’s probably aiming for Cavan.
"Ultan Harney is training away, not fully back yet, but he’s in contention for Croke Park. Davy Murray is the same, he’ll be up for selection in Croke Park.
"Ronan Daly has picked up a knock but he should be okay for the Dublin game,” the Roscommon boss revealed.
