The venues for Roscommon’s opening two FBD League games in January have been confirmed by Connacht GAA.

Mark Dowd will begin his tenure as Roscommon manager with a game against Leitrim in Orchard Park, Elphin, on Sunday, January 4th, at 1 p.m.

The first weekend in January promises to be a bumper one for local GAA supporters, with St. Brigid’s and Strokestown in semi-final action against Ulster opponents — in Strokestown’s case, Derry outfit Glenullin — in their respective All-Ireland club football championships.

A week later, on Sunday, January 11th, Roscommon are set to host Mayo in King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park, also at 1 p.m..

A finals weekend has been arranged for the weekend of January 17th/18th where the top two teams will contest the FBD Cup final. The third and fourth placed teams will play in the Shield final, while the fifth and sixth placed teams will contest the Plate decider.

A potential Connacht SFC semi-final meeting against Mayo and Roscommon, providing both teams negotiate their quarter-finals against New York and London, has been pencilled in for the weekend of April 25th/26th, with the Connacht final down for decision on May 10th.

Meanwhile, the Roscommon U-17 footballers will commence the defence of their Connacht title away to Sligo on Friday, March 20th.

The fixtures, which have been released by Connacht GAA, give the young Rossies a bye in Round Two before Shane Moran’s side continue their campaign at home to Leitrim on April 3rd.

On April 10th, Roscommon will travel to Mayo before finishing their round robin campaign at home to Galway on April 17th.

The Roscommon U-20 footballers have been handed a tough round robin draw with trips to Mayo and Galway in the pipeline.

Cian Smith’s side get their campaign underway on Wednesday, March 18th, in Tuam Stadium against Galway before they entertain Sligo a week later.

A trip to Mayo on April 1st will be followed by a bye before Roscommon finish up their campaign at home to Leitrim on April 15th.

In both the U-17 and U-20 provincial championships, the top team qualify for the final, while the second and third-placed teams will meet in a semi-final.
